Chevy Steering Column Repair Process

  1. Lock the steering column while keeping the wheel pointed straight forward.
  2.  Remove the steering column’s lower and upper trim covers. Now replace the lower Trim Cover on the Steering Column.
  3. Remove the lower trim pad cover from the instrument panel. Change the Lower Trim Pad Cover on the Instrument Panel.
  4. Remove the floor air exit duct on the left side. Please see the replacement of the floor Air Outlet Duct on – Left Side.
  5. As necessary, unplug any electrical connectors.
  6. Place match marks on the intermediate steering shaft (1) and the steering gear pinion shaft (3) with paint.
  7. Remove the lowest bolt on the intermediate steering shaft (2).
  8. Disconnect the steering gear pinion shaft and intermediate steering shaft.
  9. Assist the steering column to be stable.
  10. Remove bolts 1 and 2 from the steering column’s lower support bracket.
  11. Take off the nuts on the two steering column upper support brackets (1, 2).
  12. From the car, take off the steering column assembly (1).
  13. Transfer components as necessary.
